Work Experience Students
Hi there,
I have stupidly agreed to allow two 15yo boys from the secondary across the road shadow me for a week in June, one of there Mums is a teacher at my base Primary School.
I had a student last year, but he was based at one of my other schools and shadowed me for 1½ days, which was fine as I showed him a bit of everything.
So, I just wondered does anyone have any idea of what nice things I can get them to do? I am thinking its about time the serial numbers were updated!

Show them the network and the servers and make them create a Network Topography!! may come in useful!! Or get them to create a network using virtual machines etc!! :-)

Re: Work Experience Students
ask them what they like doing, then spin it to your advantage.
eg.
"i like building computers" = "cobble a computer together out of these broken ones, then install edubuntu for little kids to play with"
"i can make excel\access stuff" = "make me a special excel/access thing to catalogue my serial numbers. then scan them in with the barcode scanner my minion"
"i like the internet and playing games" = go home
If they start being little scumbags, dose them with valium

Re: Work Experience Students
sounds alright, i did my work experience in year 10 at a record shop, that was pretty cool. In year 12 i went to a recording studio that was awesome, the memories are a little hazy though.

Ask any teachers if they would like ICT support for Year 7 or 8 lessons using ICT and give boys a timetable of those lessons they are supporting for the week.
This will give them some structure and can have a real positive effect on the lesson especially if the teacher is a little ICT phobic.

Be careful what you show them or their own school EduGeek will be after you as they've realised how to get round their network security measures!

Re: Work Experience Students
The one I had last year showed me all the proxy bypass sites that got through the filter. They were blocked pretty quickly after that. However I admit I used them once or twice to view some blocked forums.
