I was flicking through the channels on cable yesterday and came across Ftn who were showing repeats of The Krypton Factor. I got all nostalgic and sat down to watch it. After the show had ended I was amazed at just how hard some of the challenges were and the first thing to come to my mind was how gameshows nowadays just don't come anywhere near the quality and difficulty that this show was, and some of those contestants were bloody cleaver!
I was trying to think what comes close in modern times, but hardly anything mixes knowledge with physical ability like The Krypton Factor did. Gordon Burns is presenting BBC News North West these days, sporting a lot more wrinkles on his face
Ah the good old days!

I used to watch this as a kid (very young) and only remembered the ariel slide at the end of the assault course, and it's been great to watch it again on FTN - I've been watching it for a while now. My 8 year old brother even likes it
They don't make 'em like they used to - there's nothing on TV now that compares to Krypton Factor, The Crystal Maze and The Gladiators (went to see that in Birmingham in about 1994
)

Yeah, I was around 5 - 10 years old when I remember watching this, which is why it amazes me now as to how damn hard it was.

All of which are now on either FTN or Challenge. I hate Gladiators, the Mrs loves it! Although even she is getting an bit bored of it - has anyone else noticed they seem to keep showing the same episodes over and over with Phil the martial arts guy!

Was lucky enough to fly a Sea King simulator in my days in the RAF, as well as a real Gazelle helicopter... the simulator was harder!!

Oh yeah, I'd forgotton about the Crystal Maze. I used to love that programme when I was a kid. I can remember even trying to record the theme music by holding a cassette player in front of the TV!
ops: Mind you, I was only about 10 at the time

Southampton used to have a 'crystal maze' type place it was a bizarre series of computerised puzzles and games involving avoiding infrared lasers and the like. Very similar to the actual crystal maze except more computerised in order to survive general public consumption.
So in a roundabout way kinda played it!

We used to have one in Blackpool. I never went, but it sounded similar to yours from what I heard.

I used to watch it all the time. I actually did the assualt course back in my army days. The zip line at the end was down for repair, so we had to run through that mini lake at the end
It was good fun though

Re: The Krypton Factor
Quite funny how there were so many fancy titled computer experts on the show over the years.
I always used to love how it went 'And the winner with a Krypton Factor of 40 is the computer programmer from Hull, Joe Bloggs!'
