I noticed this story on Slashdot recently:

Gate One 0.9 Released, Brings SSH To the Web - Slashdot

A web-based SSH client - your webmail could be Pine running via SSH.

Because a text only shell is totally comparable the kind of thing that Flash and Silverlight were designed to do

Not that I don't share your dislike of Flash but it seems like a poor example of the passing of the web plugin.

you misunderstand my perspective here. The fact that a traditional program can be rewritten in html is a significant breakthrough. Being able to reproduce traditional client-server applications in a native browser without the addition of plugins is a GOOD thing. The more the community is able to develop resources that are free from unnecessary licensing restrictions that prevent their application on certain devices; the better it will be for everybody.

I'm curious, for those that manage email at a school, how do you provision users into said email system? I know you can use Powershell for Office 365 and I believe gmail has APIs you can call...

Custom PHP script + CouchDB database that syncs AD accounts with Zimbra.

well i have exchange at work, which is my main account even for some personal stuff.

i have had hotmail since the beginning of time, and due to its nature gets full of crap, due to this i use it when its necessary to sign up for something which will spam me.

I have gmail, which i now use for more personal stuff.

i have both exchange and gmail on my iPhone
