Spent the day at a GMB union meeting in the very beautiful Brum Council House. Being a gadget geek i was immediately drawn to the box with lights and slots built into the tables of the cabinet room. I'm sure its got a proper name but the room was a cross between a lecture theater and an ampitheater (lol!) but with mics attached to the desks.
Now its got something to do with the mics im guessing....but what's the slot for?
Apologise for quality, i was trying to take the photo on the quiet without looking like a complete wierdo!!

Its an ID card reader combined with a voting panel - you need the card to allow you to vote!

I was about to suggest it's a control device to send 1000 volts through the chair of the person you select via it's buttons
