Sad, but not unexpected, news. He will be missed. His influence on the design of modern products was enormous.

I've just woken up to this. As an Apple Fanboy I'm gutted. May he rest in peace.

He didn't even get to see his biography published (I wonder if they will bring that forward now whilst the attention is there)

Bye Steve - thanks for everything - even if it did make me empty my wallet on numerous occasions.

He was undoubtedly one of the most innovative men of our time, and his influence on Apple products will be missed

Sadly missed - an absolute legend in the world of computing, vast intelligence and great visionary overshadowed only by the antics of the morally void Apple.

Like him or loathe him, he was a catalyst for many changes in technology. I think my favourite interview of him was the joint interview with Bill Gates. It was a rare chance to see two men dedicated to driving changes to technology talking openly. He gave chances to others in the same mold but yes, he could be your worse enemy if you stood in his way.

    He will be missed.

Every news report I’ve read or heard today has used this word “visionary” and yes I was thinking about it and that would be the one word I would use to describe him. To think how far apple products have come especially in the last 7 years the ipod, ipad and iphone.
    He will be missed

That is sad news and pretty sudden. Only aged 56...

I have a news article waiting to go up on the front page. Also beware of the scams and spams that we can expect to crop up on E-Mail and social media within the next few hours.

On a side note, I wonder how the sales of the iPhone 4s will now go. Considering it was getting harsher reviews than previous releases I wonder if it will now be seen as "buy it for Steve" sort of thing

As much as i Hate apple products i have to say he did to well, he has transformed technology for the consumer well before any of the other bigs guns (nowadays anyway) even had thought about changing.

Morally void Apple, considering he was Apple that would call into question his Morals.

He was not a visionary as people claim, he was a bloke with questionable ethics who was good at designing eye candy. Lets not overhype his contribution to the world.

I think the best think to say he was an industrialist like Ford they may have been issues but they change the landscape of their day.

A sad loss to the world. I would likely not be in IT now if it weren't for him and Apple, I grew up with Apple computers and gadgets all around me.

Basically, Apple, even in their early days, revolutionised computing. They took the super-geeky world of computers and made them home friendly. It became 'normal' to want a PC in your house.

Until Apple created a user friendly 'package' of a computer, complete with keyboard and screen, most came in the form of kits or the like. Others copied that early idea and the market we have today came from that.

I hope his legacy of innovation, marketing and obsession with getting things right continues long into the future.

    RIP.
