For the past 18 months or so our Dell Power Edge SC600 server with Win 2K server OS has backed up through Veritas Backup Exec V 10.0 to a DAT 72 170M 36GB (Native) /72GB (Compressed) Tape.
Over recent weeks the backup has not completed and has required a second tape to be inserted. The device then completes the backup and carries out a successful verify on the first then second tape.
Our server drives are:
C: 12 GB capacity. 6.69 GB used with 5.31 GB free space.
D: 56.1 GB capacity. 7.48 GB used with 48.7 GB free space.
A Test drive and Shared drive also show in “My computer” and these mirror the figures of the D: drive.
Nothing has changed in the time scale to explain why the backup now needs to utilise two tapes. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what might be going on please?

The tapes are being appended to rather than being overwritten? Hence, there is simply not enough room on the tapes.

Thanks for the quick response Ric,
Yes - that's what is happening.
