What do people think of it? I've looked at the previews and tech specs and on the face of it, it doesn't seem to be a bad device.

Looks good, but did I see it only has a 7" screen? I have no experience of these things, but is that big enough?

It looks to me to be just another tablet. I'll keep my original kindle over that for it's long battery life (weeks rather than hours) and e-ink screen which you can read in strong sunlight. I'm looking forward though to when Mirasol displays give the same benefits as e-ink but with colour.

I'm liking the look of it to be honest as a general use tablet for internet at home, I'll keep my curent kindle for reading though.
Did I see that it's only going to be released in the states though?
Maybe our inernational geeks can help on this one and send some over
Ben

yeah see i see it as a sort of mid range. you dont want to spend £500 on an ipad just to read a couple of books and browse the internet, but at the same time you don't want an original kindle if you want to do a bit more than just read books. this fits perfectly into that category; its cheap enough to be desirable, yet has enough power and features to be used as a browsing tablet too.
it is 7" screen, but again, it all depends what its used for. I mean our library is looking at tablets to be used to access the web based library catalog, browse the internet for research etc, and to read books. so rather than paying out £500 a pop to do that, it would make more sense to spend £120ish.
I want one ! I want one! maybe even two please
When are they released in UK or if never any USA edufriend fancy helping me out![]()
I just want a colour Kindle. Then I would be content![]()

I was reading on el'reg yesterday that there could be an ipad mini with a 7" released with a sensible price tag?
Ben
Do you charge these through your computer via usb or a power socket? I want to grab one of these when they are released in the USA but If they use a power socket they would have the 2 pin instead of 3.

I'd guess micro usb like the kindle so power adaptors are not an issue.
Ben
Apparently the Kindle fire wont work in the UKBecause the amazon cloud thing is only currently available in USA and thats the reason the Fire is only being sold there for now, so untill that services becomes available in the UK users who buy the Kindle fire wont be able to use alot of the features.
Sucks !

Could probably still be rooted and a diff version of droid could go on. most of the hardware looks pretty similar to other tablets.
It does not have e-paper. So if its for reading books I would get the last black & white model.
I dont want it for just reading books
Books, movies, music, web browse and apps. I want all and think it's well priced. Just hope they make available in the UK soon.
