    iPad App Dev Courses...

    Hi,

Does anyone know of any decent courses to learn iPad Programming?

We have some iPads at school.. and have noticed a lot of the Edu Apps are US based...

If anyone has got involved in App Dev.. then I would appreciate some help! ..

Learning Tree do one - iPhone and iPad Programming: A Comprehensive Hands-On Introduction - Course 2761 - Can't comment on the course itself, but as a training company they are excellent.

"Personally" I wouldn't bother with a coding course, for simple reasons. You'll learn the basics which are all great etc, but when it comes to actual developing you'll "have" to find out and research things online/books etc, as you simply won't learn a lot of what you'll need. As such if you can learn the "more involved" areas online, you should be able to learn the basics too.

Is there anything specific you wanted to know about app dev? (From your last line comment) Only started recently, but can try to help

My two cents, but hey ho

I do a lot of programming in diff languages, (favourite being .NET, but java/python/C etc etc too), wanted to make some apps so decided to sign up, not all planning to sell, even just some I wanted to build

You don't need to sign-up to the developer license thingy, if you just want to play about, you can download xcode and code with it anytime, just can't upload anything to the app store without a license. (Runs an iphone/pod/pad simulator to test code)

In terms of books, never used one for app dev, mainly just use their online documentation, as apples is surprisingly good (Yes I said it!) But if you prefer something to read, don't let that put you off!

You can also look at HTML5 as if you are doing achool apps these should be able to target multiple kinds of devices including PCs and other mobile devices giving you a much greater retun on your investment of time. You can also develop it on any platform you want to with no fees.

Programming iOS 4 looks like a good book based on the reviews. Found it on daringfireball.net.

I'd second that - I've bought an iPad 2, but don't plan on buying or developing any apps for it, I just use the web browser.

    Thanks for all the advice..

I think I will look at the HTML5 option to start with... I have young children..and have some ideas for Apps.. just dont have the skills at the moment.. I also want to do it, to prove to myself that I can.. a confidence thing I guess..
