but you also have to know when to not bother defending. If the preson behind is a lot faster surely its better to let them go and risk a place drop than fight and risk damage/dnf

But (I May be mistaken here) I'm sure they were being lapped.

    EDIT:

    I'm glad you're not a football manager!

I'd agree with @sted there. Di Resta knew this and that's why he ended up in such a respectable position. Plus, if the car behind is much faster, then you can wreck both your races by trying to prevent a pass.

The post I was replying to was referring to Massa/Hamilton. Massa was not being lapped at the time.

Personally I'm sick of hearing attacks on Lewis. He drives with an agressive style, but that just makes it great to watch. Schuey took a chance yesterday, some would say an agressive move, and paid the ultimate price for it. Lewis took a similar chance and it also didn't pay off, he paid the penalty for it and got on with his race. Vettel is a great driver - stick him in a HRT and I'm sure he'd still do well, but without the likes of Lewis in the sport it would make for terrible viewing. I really hope McLaren hold on to both of them - this year has been a fantastic spectator season and I hope it continues.

Ah right, my bad. Thought you were meaning the Williams cars.

Depends. Ferrari would definitely consider themselves to be racing directly against the McLarens rather than Mercedes or Force India. A racing driver that just gives up a place to a direct competitor wouldn't be doing himself any favours within the team. The Force India cars vs Hamilton is a different thing. Different tyres, different strategy and they aren't really directly competing against the McLarens, they are better getting on with their race than losing time driving a defensive line against Hamilton.
