My Core Just died..... time to phone HP
Its only 6 months old and the 24port SFP module has died! I've already had a replacement management card for it...
and it cost 12k!
You've had some bad luck there! Never so much as seen an HP switch have any issues myself!
I've been looking at the curcuits on the board - 2 of the transformers have cooked themselves... thank god it failed early
I have had the same chassis and module for 3 years and no problems so far. In fact in 3 years none of the HP Procurve gear has gone wrong apart from 1 GBIC.
Were you running it through a UPS? It may be worth doing if it costs £12K.
Do you have aircon in there too? What's the humidity level like? Really low humidity can have bad effects on switches.
APC is all I use. They're probably the best of the market for sure. It just looks like a manufacturing fault (from the pics), not a lot you can do about it really.
If it costs that much, it may be worth exploring extended HP warranties. Just a thought!
The fact that HP ProCurve come with a lifetime warranty (if sourced correctly from EU stock) is the thing which gives me faith.
I've had their kit for about 9 years or so now and only ever had one issue - reported at 3pm and had a replacement part with me on a pre-10.30 delivery the next day!
Apc is good but when it fails of fails! The warranty is a good thing and this switch needs to last 5/6 years!
HP warranty is good, but not perfect.
I've had to RMA 2 and a half HP switches.
One went fine, one they sent out the wrong replacement due to their web site not listing the correct switch (though since I gave them the serial number the should have noticed this). The last one took a couple of days because there was no replacement stock in the UK.
