Hello, my Dad has kindly asked me to split his roof aerial off to 5 rooms of the house, currently the cable goes to 2 rooms only. Could someone suggest what kind of kit i'll need, if I'll need an amplifier at all etc, and what to look out for when doing this. Hes getting loft and cavity wall insulation put in week after next and wants it done before then.
Thanks.

12th September 2011, 04:46 PM #2 CPC sell all the kit you'll need. Best bet is an amplifier in the loft (or on the mast) but as close to the aerial as possible. If in the loft, get a multi output type and run to each room. One room has a power supply in it, this feeds power back up to the amp using the coax cable. If the amp is on the mast, then locate the splitter in the most convenient room (or loft), but near the aerial.

12th September 2011, 05:56 PM #3 If you are going to be installing new aerial points, make the effort (and investment) to use decent cabling.
Instead of the cheap generic brown TV cable (RG6 etc) use Satellite cabling (WF100).
I used it to install 6 points throughout the house.
The advantage being if in the future you want to run a Satellite/FM/DAB connection to a particular room you can always a install a distribution amplifier within the loft etc to combine TV, FM, DAB and Satellite signals through the single cable going to each room and connect a diplexer/or triplexer wall mount.
(Whilst you're at it with the floor boards up etc, install some Cat5e cabling! or CAT6 if you're feeling flush)
WF100 Coax Cable
Coaxial WF100 digital cable Satellite Sky and Freeview extension leads double screened
Shop around for prices, but ensure you compare like for like (I managed to get 50m for £19)
Amplifiers/Diplexers etc
Diplexers, filters, amplifiers for terrestrial TV
Wall Plates
Wall Plates screened sockets

I don't have any links with the above company etc, but they know their stuff!

12th September 2011, 06:45 PM #6 Just the main feed. He has sky but the dish is downstairs on the side of the house and runs straight to the TV.

14th September 2011, 10:24 AM #8 Right then, on the shopping list:
50m cable
5x TV + FM/DAB screened diplexed surface plate
1x 6 way mains amp (6 x 5dB outputs + full, TV + FM/DAB inputs)
Co-ax connectors for amp
That about right?
