Last time I did a BBQ we used some prepacked charcoal bags that you just light. Dead easy

Has to be proper charcoal for me
No lighter fluid or anything either, the real way to do it is get newspaper lit, get the charcoal burning and spend some time keeping it lit

After about an hour it will be perfect and will last for ages.

Gas is just no fun, its the same as doing it indoors on the grill!

It's gotta be charcoal. The food tastes better well burnt. Last one we had was when on holiday. Got a bag of charcoal that you light in two corners & away you go. Blooming great.

Well as an Aussie I voted Gas. And I'm also going to put you guys straight Us Aussie men nearly all use a gas BBQ. Aussie men take pride in their BBQ kit, the bigger it is (large hotplate and grill , side & top grills etc) all the better! Gas keeps the food clean, cooked through and hot. And no smoke either so your neighbors Don't have to go back inside to escape it! Also it's damn hard to set yourself, grass & nearest bush/tree etc, on fire...! :blob6:

Why do you Poms always have to make things so bloody difficult!

I would have thought all the calor gas bottles, regulators, bits of pipes, ignitors and lava bricks to maintain and replace would have been a lot more complicated than a metal bucket with some holes in the bottom and a grill grid thingy slung on the top wiht a charcole fire in it :P

Difficult my pale british arse :P

I put Gas ... mainly because I am like most other SysAdmins ... lazy ... and decent gas systems make life so easy cleaning it up.

The other reason is because it is not always me cooking ... and I don't trust others to use charcoal properly and I don't want to relive a bout of food poisoning I had 10 years ago.

Charcoal! Gas is cheating. We bought a BEAST of a BBQ last year
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/3454787.htm and had an amazing world cup party. Invited about 40 people round, put a screen and LCD projector (perks of working in the IT dept) in the garden underneath a gazebo to keep the sun off. Luckily for that party England won, everybody got drunk and ate loads. Did the same for England v Portugal and strangely enought nobody really felt like eating or drinking.

Will most likely do the same next year for the Euros if we qualify!

We got a Weber BBQ (big round things) a couple of years ago, and thats amazing, it works like an oven when you put the top on and you can cook all sorts of stuff in it. We sometimes cook our roast chicken in it, it tastes amazing.
Whiskey barrel chips sound nice... we used to used lavarocks and hickory chips in our gas bbq, they were alright, but it still didnt taste like a real bbq.

South african Boerewors sausage is great on the bbq, this stuff is the best sausage i have ever had. No english sausage comes any where close.
