Re: Want to laugh at my school internet site?
I can assure you that my school website is considerably worse. It's so bad it doesn't appear on Google and only has one picture of the school, and the rest are generic pictures of American Kids using equipment that our school couldn't afford in 100 budgets.
Needless to say, I didn't make it.

That site makes baby Jesus cry.
Having the 2.6MB bitmap as the background is especially bad. Our Year 7s could do better.
I don't know if it's a peculiarity in Opera (didn't want to check in another browser, it would probably exceed my bandwidth cap for the month :P) but when you bring down one of the mouseover menus at the top, it makes the entire content of the site disappear until you move the mouse away from the menu.

lol! the poor guy has never seen it, partly why I was so keen on us not using it. I explained to him that he'd not like it once he was up but he muttered something about charter mark and said it was a requirement..

I suppose it's better than paying £3000 to an outfit like Schooltrends.

Re: Want to laugh at my school internet site?
To be fair, there is quite a lot of prospectus-like content on there, which is more than I've seen a lot of other school's sites offer. It's just ruined by the pictures, the purple, and the..umm...pfonts.

You think the above school websites are bad, take a look at this:
http://www.burgate.hants.sch.uk
Click on the main website button to enter.
It is real rubbish. A very bad advert for the school. & I am glad to say, I had nothing to do with it.

It's nice to know there is a service on 4 months ago!
The lack of pictures also makes it slightly creepy.

That is the bit that got me most... took over 2 mins to load at home. I'm shocked... thats probably the most basic of web design rules broken.
I love this bit...
The following website was created by the students of Armadale Academy
That clears your name
and is still under contruction
That clears the students name... kinda...

LOL well at least it makes my schools website look good
My school takes the same approach of letting sixth formers do quite important stuff like this. An admirable approach but the results are normally awful
The websites the year 7's do in Word arnt much worse than that
Double LOL at kestrel1's though..wow

Had to hit stop on the site, it was draining all my bandwidth (it hadn't finished after 5 minutes on 512k!!)
This One isn't much better, luckily it's not one of mine, but I did consider offering to redo it for them - check out the scripts from Dynamic Drive (especially the No Right Click script, which I find infuriating as I click the scroll wheel to scroll [rather than scrolling it] - which triggers the script in FF!).
SideWinder - If you let the ones who do computing and know more than the teacher (sometimes not hard
) then you should be OK!
HalfMad's was done by year sixes!!

hmmm, still unsure about mine. www.nbc.medway.sch.uk
If your website was modified slightly, then it has the potential to look ok, but as it stands now, some serious flaws in it. Can't believe the length of time it took to load!!
Mike.
