    Ebay

Thinking of setting up a school ebay account to sell off old kit and to use the funds to buy new bits and pieces for the school.

Also thinking of getting the kids involved as well to give them a bit of business/it experience

Can anyone see any pitfalls in this idea?

Well instant issues I can think of,

    a) It'd have to be setup as a business account, not personal, aka VAT issues etc (As you'll be buying without VAT< but selling with?)
    b) As it's representing the school as a business, who's responsible for any issues, e.g. If your pc electricutes someone?
    c) If the kids involved are actually selling stuff on behalf of school wouldnt it "Officially" be counted as working for you? Obviously not in reality, but officially

Not trying to discourage it, just saying :P

    Hi,

From my personal experience of eBay, there's a lot of fraud and the fees are a pain in the a***!

If you send me over the kit you are selling, I'll see if I can get it sold for you. We work with a partner that buys old kit especially off schools and colleges. You get all the money or you could use it againt a purchase, up to you. They don't buy everything but it's worth a go and it's 100% safe.

The business skills thing is a good idea though!

    Cheers

Talk to the School's financial officer/Bursar. Ours is happy for us to do some, but I've not got around to dipping my toes in the water yet.

Would you be using the schools credit card details to setup the paypal account or your own and giving the money to the school? I dont think i'd like to be the one responsible for a paypal account linked to the schools bank could get messy is any fraud happens, might be easier for you to just sell through an account registered to you you can have upto 9 accounts of your own.

you would have to register VAT registered on ebay so they take the VAT off the fees and just sell everything sold as seen no warranties ect put this in a large brightly coloured font lol

I want to do it here but not got round to it yet, they'll but any crap on eBay

Schools don't buy stuff without vat, they just claim the vat back.

If a school sells an item then they have to sell it at a price inclusive of vat and give the vat to hmrc
