Getting work in Australia or NZ

Hi guys looking for some advice..

How do you go about getting work over in Australia or New Zealand?

As some of you may know, my current situation is rather bleak and I'm really considering a completely fresh start for me and my family..

Just don't know the best way to go about things, or even if its even the best solution

Go to the embassy and ask them about emigrating. They'll be best to answer your questions

See if you can get a job in NZ/Aus before comming over (after you investigate the requirements) having a job to come to makes the process way easier.

This forum website will be the best place to do will all sorts of questions like this - British Expatriate Community : British Expat Community Its a really good site and friendly people

For an IT Manager to go to Australia currently you will need a degree and 6 years experience before you can even apply. If you have or get an Australian degree no experience required. Depending on what your wife does you might be able to get in on her profession. Also expect the process to take years to complete. It might be 2+ years. Have a look here lots of info to read - http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/

As you know i am going to Australia myself so feel free to PM me.

SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site is the best place for look for jobs.

Check for ones offering a 457 (business sponsor visa) as that will let you come over immediately, albeit temporarily.

Its easier if you are not fussed about not being in the cities, going rural you stand the chance of State Sponsorship (176 visa i think) which is a permanent visa.

But as @FN-GM says, going for a permanent residency visa is the best option if you think you might want to make the move permanently (175 visa). The requirements for this visa change every year, and it does take years as FN-GM says, check this page Skilled Occupation Lists (Formerly Known as Form 1121i) to see if you or your wives skill is on the list.

If it is, then you need to get the skill assessed by the relevent authorotive body (ACS (Australian Computer Society) - Membership, Professionalism and Leadership for ICT Professionals and the ICT Community does IT for example)

A useful forum I sometimes use as well is PomsInOz Australia Migration & British Expats Forum which is full of folk making the move, or who have already made it.

    Good luck.

For that visa do you have to meet the requirements on the SOL list please?

    Thanks

There is a seperate list for that called the EN-SOL (employer nominated SOL) which has extra stuff on it not on the main SOL.

eg. systems administrator is on the EN-SOL but not the SOL so i am S.O.L about getting a permanent residency that way.

(sys admin WAS on SOL until July 1st 2010, but by the time I got my skills assessment back from the ACS, it was too late... )

My last resort is a 121 or 856 (I think) which is the employer nominated permanent... but not holding my breath my employer will do it for me, but we will see...

    Ptlabs Consulting - IT Occupations

This guy helped me out with a few questions via email, seems to know his stuff and his website puts things a bit easier to understand than the immi.gov.au site.
