On what he describes as "the most humble day of my life", Murdoch eats pie.

Really clever thing for that FOOL to do.

How to go from having the Murdochs' on the ropes, to handing them the moral high ground, in one easy lesson.

If this was a forum that allowed swearing, and gave people the choice to edit it out automatically, I would vent my spleen. I find it very difficult to believe that there are people who would think that that was a bright idea.

Do it OUTSIDE, not whilst he's answering questions. The British Gov then HAD to apologise TO Murdoch. Galling.

    IDIOT!

Got to agree with you there. How on earth was this fool (No, not the one being questioned) allowed to just wander in? The damn thing was being televised all over the world, yet some plonker with a bright shirt and a plate with shaving foam managed to just walk up to the Murdochs.

If there is one that the "we" are world leaders at, it is making a fool of ourselves on the world stage.

If you attack an 80 year old man, Murdoch or not, you're still a turd.

I don't believe that any real punishment will come to murdoch, really what we want is to see is him humiliated because thats the only justice he'll see.

Call me what you will... But, I don't get why everyone hates him so much.

As far as I can see, he's just a guy running a really successful business.

It isn't everyone that hates him, it's the BBC and Guardian who hate him. The reason they hate him is his politics. He doesn't agree with the BBC/Guardian left-wing 'consensus' and his news agencies follow his line - liberty, democracy, free markets. The Left hate him because of it. That's all it is.

I mean, I might despise Polly Toynbee, but I wouldn't write on Twitter about how she deserved to be gassed or poisoned for her views. But that's what we see from the Left. And they think they're the nice ones!

Then why does everyone seem so happy that he's been assaulted? [Shaving foam or not... it's still assault.]

Billy Smart & Zippo have been arrested for incitement to commit assault.

Yeeeeah! This thread was always going to become politicised within a very short space of time.

Why do I hate Murdoch? Yes, I may be a Labour supporter, and always vote red, but I believe that the man is a stain on the media ACROSS the world. Not just in this country. Have you ever seen FoxNews? Xenophobic nonsense spouted by Americans who would struggle to read a book, let alone an autocue.

The Sun, NotW have always been the gutter press, from times when they were the largest part of News Corp. Just because they are suddenly "1% of the business" does not make them any less important.

To see him claiming that he hardly spoke to editors, and knew little about the stories is ridiculous. You think his Chief editor might not have dropped it into conversation? "Ummm...Yes, we've just paid Gordon Taylor 700000 for hacking his phone"

This is supposed to be a media mogul, with his finger on the pulse, and in all the pies, yet he sits there and expects us to believe that he knows nothing of what goes on in the company of which he is CEO/Chairman?

This story is NOT about Right or Left, it's about Right and Wrong.

The Labour Party were quick to cosy up to Murdoch, much to "REAL" Labour's chagrin, back in the mid-90's because it was accepted that the only way to get elected was to have News Corp on your side.

I don't see how it's any more ignorant than any other US news channel, which all seem to have pretty dimwitted people regurgitating stories that they have no hope of grasping. The difference is that it is unashamedly right-wing, and that's what you object to. So what if the people who watch it don't read books? Who are you to judge their lives? They've found a TV channel which reflects their core values, just as the BBC reflects the core values of wealthy Islington middle-class socialists.

The Sun, NotW have always been the gutter press, from times when they were the largest part of News Corp. Just because they are suddenly "1% of the business" does not make them any less important.
The Mirror is also the gutter press. The Mirror has done far more phone hacking than the NOTW. But everyone's been pretty quiet on that front, because of course the Mirror is a left-wing paper, and that makes it OK.

I doubt that he knows who is hired, what the editorial line is, or any of that stuff. He hires people to do that for him. That's why he doesn't know what the editorial line is, or who hacked what and when it was done.

The missus works for a bank in the city. She's relatively high up but I doubt that there's a single director who could link her name to her job, say when she was hired, say exactly what decisions she made and when they were made. When she tries to explain it to me it boggles the mind. The one she works for hires 15,000 new employees a year. The scale of these big companies is such that it is simply impossible, even if you wanted to, to know everything that's happened. Politicians who operate in a very small world, and people who work in very small businesses or institutions (like schools) seem to forget that.

I would suggest that you find some proof, pretty damn quick, or re-write that sentence.

Without proof, what you have done there is LIBEL the Mirror Group.

I'm not suggesting that ALL other papers are squeaky clean, but I would NEVER come straight out with an accusation that I cannot back up. If you DO have proof, then I would suggest you seek the nearest Police Station.

Take a Look in the Mirror - Guy Fawkes' blog

Guido handily links to the Information commissioner's report, which you can find here:

    http://www.ico.gov.uk/news/current_t...RIVACY_NOW.pdf

It refers to 'blagging', which is illegally obtaining information about people. I should have been more explicit and not just referenced phone hacking.

As you can see from the report the police have already been involved.
