Kids in schools shouldn't be using them on their laps due to Health and Safety regulations anyway.

H&S should include RSI concerns, and viewing angles to the screen.

I still have access to the academic journal search engines - Here it is!

Yeah, I saw this one. Never bothered with kids anyway, you get put off after working in a school.

The daily mail claim that video games will turn everyone into MURDERERS. Holy crapola batman! We have a bunch of mass murderers working in a school, and all these poor innocent school children will grow up to be murderers too. OH NOES!

If I were to write one letter to the editor of the daily mail this would be it:

    "Piss off"

    Newspapers promote lies :P

Ordinarily, yes, and of course we do tell our staff that, however in this specific instance it was not possible due to the way the room is laid out. It was actually not possible for her to get fully out of sight of the projector - she could get out of the beam itself, but the light source was still sufficiently close that it was in her eyes.

Even in the better rooms, standing to one side of the board doesn't fully remove you from the light - even if you're not directly looking down the glare, if it is in your peripheral vision it could do damage.

Well, they are potential murderers! Haven't you seen the look they get in their eyes when you tell them not to run in a corridor?

Re: Our First Student with Health Problems Due to Wireless!!

I've just read the two articles linked from the Daily Mail and the BBC. It is interesting to note that they both, especially the BBC one, draw links between Wi-Fi and mobile phones. Considering that the reports into the health risks of mobile phones (including those of the HPA referenced in the Daily Mail's article) conclude, at best, that damage is only likely in very high volume users, I am not sure I see a great risk.

Wi-Fi might possibly may could be a slight threat to our children, however considering the behavioural differences which my wife's school saw when they stopped selling sweets and fizzy drinks at lunchtime, I am not sure that a ban on Wi-Fi is addressing the greatest risk first.

(insert disclaimer here that this is my opinion and not that of my employer, if the HM asks me to turn off the wireless, then I will have little choice)

Re: Our First Student with Health Problems Due to Wireless!!

Here's another thought on the subject - I'm assuming that any potential threat from Wi-Fi is coming from the radio waves causing cell damage, cancer, etc (as mobile phones allegedly do). So why then are the articles talking about ADHD, concentration issues and behavioural problems?

Lets face it, we are all gonna snuff it at some time. Be it naturally or with some sort of disease. If our brains are fried by the radio waves first, we won't even know or care.
I am not normally a pesamist.

I think we've got more chance of dying from old GWB pressing the 'Nuke' button than from Wifi...

As my Dad pointed out, wi-fi radiation is no more dangerous than Cornwall, which is radioactive.

Cornwall is indeed more radioactive than other parts of the UK (due to the granite rock) - however it also has a higher leukaemia rate, so if Wi-Fi is as dangerous as Cornwall, then we have a problem on our hands...

Lets all move to cornwall then. At least it is a nice part of the country to snuff it in.

My Dad also suggested we tried to direct the wi-fi signal towards specific pupils. So maybe that 'problem' could be turned into a blessing.
