    And so it starts!

    Here we go then!

Summer hols are almost upon us, and today i took delivery of.....

34 Smartboards, 34 short-throw projectors, 34 Control panels, and assorted wiring.

103 boxes of stuff that will be fitted over the next 3 weeks.

That's not including the 34 All-in-One PCs that will be delivered in the next couple of weeks, for the smartboards!

Oh, wait a minute....What's that on the horizon?

40 more (minimum) PCs coming in soon.

Plus, the need to rebuild MOST of the campus machines, and get as many on W7 as possible.

Most of the time, there will be just 2 of us in the department.......Gonna be a long, busy summer!

BUT....no students!!! (until they come back, and start breaking stuff again!) Happy summer holidays, everyone!

I'm jealous. The primary school whose system I help to support has no money and has never had a rolling budget for IT hardware replacement. Total spending this summer will be about £800 to replace two projectors (both 5 1/2 years old). If I'm lucky I'll also get to order a couple of toners for the long-suffering printer.

    @all:

Nice that some of us have big enough budgets to do these things, unfortunately my team and I have very little to do this summer due to the fact we migrated to a new platform Windows 7 (in 9 days) and hardware with all the added services in February half term hehe!

This all done gives me the chance to have..............wait for it.........................4 weeks holidays during the summer break yahoo!

Going to the Caribbean with my wife........................................waitin g for the question.............................Jamaica?

No she's going of her own accord hehe!

    Happy Summer everyone

I will ony have 6 new PC's to install and SIMS to move from one server to another.

The same as bossman, I will have moved to windows 7 before the holidays (I'm 6 days into migrating, only 40 PC's left of 150, but I only have 2 pairs of arms!). Like FN-GN it's a build from scratch. I just thank god it is nearly over!

We've got our school and the other school in the town becoming one academy but remaining on two sites, therefore setting up a wireless link between the two (they are about a mile and a half apart) and then moving all the servers to one site, removing CC4 from the servers from the other site, creating a new domain, reconfiguring all 20 or so servers, setting up VLAN's all over the place, merging SIMS databases, and removing all 900 or so computers/laptops from the current domains (and removing the CC4 stuff where relevant) and adding them to our new domain - haven't yet decided whether to upgrade them to W7 while we're at it. Then of course there's the changing of all our licences to the new name and the increasing of them to take in to account the additional computers/staff/students depending on licence type. Should be interesting, although potentially quite hectic! Glad I've already booked my annual leave.....

I've got 30 working days (from 25th July to 2nd sept) to, Put 300 new computers on the desks (when the rooms are signed off from builders), Reinstall and setup a further 650 machines. Ensure the Audio Visual guys install the 14 Promethean boards. Ungrade to exchange 2010, install new telephone system (TBC may be delayed) mount 2 32" tvs and setup them. Rewire and configure all 24 CCTV Cameras. Learn how to use a mac (never touched one in my life) and configure small network of these. Build an Image for our Music tech room and deploy. Upgrade/Reinstall isa with something TBC. Install and configure our 2 new virtual hosts (using ubuntu which requires others rebooting). Setup the mount points for our new San Enclosure on the Vitual Hosts. Hopefully upgrade papercut to MF and deploy onto photocopiers.

And the builders are 8 days behind meaning parts of the school won't be ready for september 5th!

EDIT: and deploy emerge to 10 client machines and train PE to use!)

Ahh the joys off been a contractor, lol oh how I do miss the days of installing machines, moving cr4p from one place to another, and then back again :-) NOT

This summer looks like I have the task of installing 7 Exchange 2010 servers, while in Air Con rooms, and also doing a Fronter migration

    Good times...
