whilst I would like to say I agree, I cant as the rep system does not represent time spent here and posts made...look at @localzuk who has been on the forum longer than I have, yet I am not too far behind him in terms of rep, or @Dos_Box who has been here from day 1, and again, I am not far behind him in the scheme of things.

And what, do you think, does that prove?

You're far too high. I'm way down on page 6. I'm going to have to Neg Rep you daily. Would you prefer it signed or anonymous?

I am just saying that mainly rep is based on the quality of the posts rather than quantity and length of service.

I'm all talk, I don't even know how to do it.

As I said yesterday, the way it is used makes it meaningless to me.

For cold hard cash I could get you up the ladder, for charity of course.

The problem is that there could be some comeback if you know who has left bad rep. I have seen it happen...

It happened to me from someone who thought I'd left neg rep... and it wasn't me.

Neg Rep is a way for people who can not fight to stick one to the man! :P

To a degree yes, but you're own example is a great example that it doesn't necessarily mean you're a better contributor to the website. No offence, but I'm sure you wouldn't argue that @ZeroHour and @Dos_Box have contributed quite a lot to this website

All I'm saying is that some people put too much weight in the rep system: those of us that have been around here a while know who to go to and who to ignore, we don't need the rep system to tell us that

EDIT: just noticed you said @localzuk, not @ZeroHour but I still think my point stands...

Wow! Page 7...now I don't feel so small and insignificant

Nothing like a ratings table to put you in your place...

    School league tables anyone?

Also take into account that rep didn't exist until not so long ago, and also take into account that much rep is given for jokes etc... and not necessarily insightful or useful posts.

Rep isn't supposed to be a perfect system, its just a very rough indicator with plenty of flaws.

Generally I find the neg rep system works ok. Yes, I've been a bit peeved at some of the neg reps I've had, but when I look back at what I posted a day or two later I've usually seen and understood why I got the neg rep. Don't forget you always have the option to report it to the admins if you feel you are getting malicious neg rep as they can see who sent it and have the option to remove it.

It does look pretty when you get a star though!

A perfectly good reason to get rid of it.
