I did the Caldon (the one near Alton Towers mentioned above) in October. Really quite beautiful. Very quiet, and the countries most isolated (allegedly) pub on the route.

If you were a bit closer to "up north", Bronte Boats at Hebden Bridge seem quite cheap.
