    stand up comedy

    Who is your favourite?

I had never been to a comedy show before, so I went to see Billy Connolly at the Sydney Opera House. Though Id open with a bit of a big yin!

Since then Ive only been to see another comedian, Danny Bhoy, who although another Scot, I had never heard of in Scotland! Seems he is massive here in australia..

To continue the pro-Scottish comedian loving, Frankie Boyle is a legend, and I really hope Kevin Bridges makes an appearance out here at some point.

There are a couple of the english ones i find funny, Michael Macintyre, and theres another one whose name escapes me...

BBC - Comedy - Live at the Apollo - Danny Bhoy - Noah's Ark

Any other local / international talent I should be looking out for?

PS: a thread like this wouldnt be complete without this legend

Milton Jones is one of my favourites at the moment but we also enjoy going to the local jongluers for smaller acts.

I went to a local comedy club in Birmingham last month, and it was a bit of a mixed bag. Out of the 4 comedians, I enjoyed Tom Wrigglesworth the best but Doc Brown had a bit of a musical slant to his act which was good. Trevor Crook was an Australian, but didn't find him very funny at all.

I enjoy a lot of the comedians who appear on the panel shows - Sean Lock, Rich Hall, Hugh Dennis, Ed Byrne and Milton Jones too.

Liking John Bishop myself at the moment, he often features on Michael MacIntyres comedy roadshow.

Billy Connelly is an absolute legend. Agree about Milton Jones too.

Also find Russell Howard pretty funny too.

Not a proper 'stand up' comedian but funny none the less is Tim Minchin who is my comedy choice just now. Mark Watson is another. Robin Ince, Mark Parker and Helen Arney are amusing too.

Ask me again after August though and I will have more

I really admire John Bishop, he had me in fits at the London Palladium and Blackpool on Michael MacIntyre's road show.

Excellent delivery and just down to earth with real live events that make both sexes laugh.

Billy Connelly used to be a favourite of mine in the early days but went off the boil.

Russell Howard during his first DVD was amazingly funny. Second tour wasn't all that great though.

Steve Hughes - currently doing the rounds as the support act to Reginald D Hunter. Both good but Steve is IMO better (although this time round, his stint was too short).

Stuart Lee. Worth seeing live if you can, but otherwise get hold of "If You Prefer A Milder Comedian Please Ask For One". Then again, I love dour, deadpan stuff. Some don't.

I quite enjoyed Imran Yusuf's show recently, the low numbers in the venue didn't reflect the relatively high quality of the material.

Sarah Milligan is well worth seeing in a live show - low brow filth mostly but extremely well done.

Finally I always enjoy Jeremy Hardy's live shows. He does tend to move his material on slowly, so you need three shows before it's all new; but his cynical view of the world is funny and sometimes thought provoking.

I managed to execute a superb heckle at a Frankie Boyle gig in London not so long ago (managed to get Kettering a shout out from Frankie 'afore he took the stage) Thought I'd get murdered for it.

Other than Mr Boyle I absolutely love the work of Doug Stanhope, Brendan Burns, Louis CK and of course Bill Hicks. Oh and George Carlin is a firm favourite.

Oh and as a final thought - SARAH MILLICAMP IS NOT FUNNY!!!!! I have no idea why she is everywhere at the minute, she couldn't make me laugh if she handed me tonights winning lotto ticket...boo this woman.
