Our canal is open again :)

A few years ago, I took this video. There was still heaps of work to do and on Friday it's the grand opening. There are 60 odd boats parked up and we are going to have a big festival over the weekend.

Its always nice to hear of more of the network being restored and opened. The canals in this country are an amazing legacy with so much potential!

Wish the one near me would hurry up and be finished so I've got a nice route to cycle to and from work. Abruptly finishes at the moment and need to walk along a foot path with about 10 stiles to join up to a road. They reckon another 15 years

you've not seen the depth of the canal out the back of my house then. unless you were looking to dispose of the bodies of the borrowers you'd have a tough job

Ah, so only suitable for use when the user has accidentally fallen into the industrial blender, ok.

Yes, nice new towpaths. A lot are surfaced. The canal runs past a large housing estate and the High School so the kids there can now walk/cycle/sail from home to school, without crossing a road.

Now that's an episode of "Will it Blend?" I'd love to see.

joking, I don't really want to se humans being blended.

That reminds me of ski chase in a James Bond film.

Do you think you will get much uptake in sailing to school? Just think... you'll have to add another option to your travel questionnaires.

Nice bit of film. It looks a very bucolic scene. When you've edited together a video of the current state of the canal, please post it here so we can see the progress made.

This is a snap from my daily commute to work on a towpath - nice eh?

Admittedly other parts of the route get quite industrial, but I'm pleased to say that the canals around here have been improved dramatically in the last decade.

The Water Festival over the weekend has been brilliant. Around 100 boats and the park and town packed with people. The weather was perfect. Real ale was £2.80 a pint and loads of good bands to entertain. The icecream man must have made a fortune.
