we have fujitsu computers with weak front panelling. (they've changed the design now) our tech department makes us replacement (stronger) panels on their laser cutting machine that we glue back on. we replace a fair number of mice & keyboards, mostly kbs.
generally its supply teachers and certain other teachers it happens to more often.

Isn't is just the Home PCs that have different PCs?

Looking at the website they seem the same as the P series ones.

We've moved away from Fujitsu for this reason, though I must say I'm pleased with the HP ones more than I ever was with the FJ-S computers.

    Re: Damage to PC's

I have had very little damage to the computer network here and our school is for EBD kids!

I have had the little rubber band inside the CD drive removed once, a bluetooth adapter nicked that the teacher left in and a couple of keyboards that have collapsed inside from a over eager pupil playing 'hit the key as many times as you can and win' type games.

The only major bit of damage i had was a printers top cover smashed because it wouldn't print. It was only two weeks old!

The old Scenics were very breakable on the front panels. They've changed them now though to something more robust. I'd imagine those are the models browolf meant.

    Aren't the FJ-S one's just these now:

Looks the same but white to me.

The main problem we had with them is if the PC needed pulling forwards, where do you get hold? Exactly, just pulls straight off if you do

No it was the SCENIC P models with the flakey front panels. Especially the bottom grill.

    Re: Damage to PC's

    They look the same.

At the front they have to white columns down the side that are nice and solid.

Then your picture (the PCs I have, P series like you say) have the black grill.
In my picture it looks exactly the same just a white grill.

Do you (or does anyone) have the Esprimo to confirm it's any different?

The 2 fronts are different in construction. However, they both break as easily as each other.

    Re: Damage to PC's

I've now started imposing internet access bans, even for minor damage - like bending PS/2 mouse pins by forcing them in regardless of orientation. I had to fix yet another one on one PC in the library, but this time whilst the culprit was still using another PC in the row. So, I put the repaired mouse back on the one he was using ("you damaged it, luckily for you I've fixed it, so you get it back"), and he - as I expected - objected, so I gave him a 1 day ban (they are usually for a week and just for internet misuse) for damaging the mouse, he kept on arguing - again as expected -so I gave him another day for arguing with me, he still kept on mouthing, so I gave him yet another day for being so "phenomenally stupid that he couldn't see that there was a pattern developing", at which point his two brain cells actually fired in unsion and he also realised that he was also beginning to look a prat in front of his mates. I don't think any of the other kids there at the time will doing anything like that in future either, and I hope they tell their mates not to annoy that fat b*st*rd of a new computer technician as well!

@StephenLeak - I like the idea of giving a punishment to someone on the grounds of them being "phenomenally stupid", my slight concern is that such a practice could quickly result in a very widespread punishment! :-)

    Re: Damage to PC's

Our efforts may be paying off in unexpected ways. I was chatting to one of the cleaners the other day, and she mentioned that she had noticed that they have started putting the chairs back under the desks! I hadn't spotted this. BTW, I am certain that it can't be due to the teachers telling them to. If they did, that would guarantee that none of the kids would do it, if you see what I mean.

i almost eradicated damage by charging deparmtents for damage caused by their teachers, it works really well as teachers will not respond to support staff but when their hod is bollocking the message gets across

    Re: Damage to PC's

Any chance anyone knows how to get replacement fronts for the P Series Fujitu-Siemens?

    We need 60.

30 with holes for two USBs and Mic and Headphones
30 with holes for one USB and Mic and Headphones

Previously we got them direct from Service Source but they say they only have ones with no holes at all now, just blocked squares instead of the aboved mentioned bits.

Can you not get the blocked ones and cut them out yourself with a hot blade tool?
