The chair of NetworkNorthants (the local community of IT support staff and IT support providers) is also female.

I sent this to our Head of PE (a woman) last week - From the archive, 16 May 1921: Protest over women inspectors | From the Guardian | The Guardian. I've never come across this attitude in IT, tho' we don't have this sort of back story.
Could I be the first to say that some of my best friends are women?

In my time I've worked with one female IT technician (although she was half IT technician and half PE techician), while met a female network manager when I was on a traning course for the VLE. Young (my age, ~21) female technicians are something reminiscent of a mythical creature.

I think there are probably more of us than you would think on here. Some use a name that doesn't immediately identify them as female, and others just lurk rather than post.

Intresting sastistic - it seems there are more women in management in IT than as techies.
I am one of two female tecies in a team of 16 so not quite alone, the undergraduates studing Computing here is approximately 250 over the three year groups, but of these 250 only 22 are female.

I should have added the background to that, its just the ICT Managers at secondary level, I am sure we have many more technicians in both secondary and primary as I don't have those figures to hand but you are right and its good to see a redressing of the gender imbalance

In my time here we've advertised for tech or senior tech on at least 8 or 9 occasions, and not once have we received an application from a female.

Don't think I have ever actually met one, I know they exist, even in NZ but are still quite rare as far as I can tell.
