The rest would be invested half in high risk investments and half in a very low risk account, so I could dip into it to buy things like new computers and the like.

Not that I've thought about it at all...

Oh, and a boat. I'd want a boat.
Not that I've thought about it much...but like localzuk I'd be keeping 10-20 mil back to spend now and on various projects/properties (of course I'd be building the ultimate geeky house!)/cars/holidays/stuff with the remaining amount going into a various investments split between 2 or 3 private banks, and since 85 mil pushes you into ultra high net worth category you should get some banks very interested . I'd try to never touch the capital that's been invested, instead living off of a fixed percentage of the yearly income from the investments (somewhere between 10-50% dependant on returns!), with remaining interest being reinvested.

That would all be controlled by some form of trust to make it easier to pay money out to family/dependants etc. Ohh and I'd probably still continue working. I actually really like the work that I'm doing and find it interesting, but I would stop taking salary and get them to hire someone to sit below me so that if I decided I was going away for a few weeks there wouldn't be a problem

I haven't though about it much of course

    Wool is not very flammable.

Magnum PI isn't it? Do you plan on growing an appropriate moustache or do you already have one?

This is going against the grain (i.e. logical thought, a reasonable understanding of maths), but I think I might buy a ticket. I found a pound only this morning, so I'll use that.

They say money can't buy you happiness, but I'd like to be able to test the theory nonetheless.

Back to the original question - what to buy? A nice luxury motorhome and drive round Europe for a bit. That's it for now, I'll send a postcard regularly...

Ah, a boat. Boats are bought by people who have bought everything else and wonder what else they can buy. I know people with boats. They say the two happiest days in their life are the day they bought a boat, and the day they sold it.

Maybe not, but it gets you a better grade of misery.

I thought that was a Testarossa or was that in Miami Vice?

Back in the 1980s my boss at the time had a 308 and I've always hankered after one. I had to drive it back from London once via the M1 - ace drive!

I know what they mean when they say money can't buy you happiness, but I'm pretty sure with that kind of money most of my worries would go away and I'd be able to do more of the things I enjoyed... no, they're definitely wrong!
