My bag is mainly a camera bag, so it has a camera + lens; but also pockets of "stuff", which contain:

    • USB cables
    • Network cable
    • Insulating tape
    • Cable ties
    • Pens
    • Pencils
    • Post-It notes
    • Multi-tool
    • USB flash drive
    • Memory card reader
    • Highlighter

I'd stick with the hammer. Screws are just "serrated nails" anyway

Bag?? What bag?? I don't take one anywhere, everything I need is in my pockets or clipped to my belt.

    Lunch.

That's it. Everything else important is in my wallet and/or pocket. My car boot does have a worryingly large quantity of gaffer tape though.

Ooooooo, showing your geek rating there I'm afraid:

items on belt / (items in pockets + items on belt) + number of pairs of glasses owned - number of led zeppelin albums owned * the number of tools on average to complete a job * (number of programming languages comfortable with using / 2)

So for instance I have 3 items in my pockets, 0 on my belt, don't wear glasses, own 3 led zeppelin albums, it normally takes me a screwdriver and wire cutters to complete the average job, and I'm pretty comfortable in 4 programming languages.

    0 / (3 + 0) + 0 - 3 * 2 * (4 / 2)
That gives me a geek rating of -12 making me uber cool on the HGRT (Hightower Geek Rating Scale)

    In mine is:

    Paper notebook
    Lunch
    DWP paperwork (joy)
USB lead to charge the Ericcson
    baby swimsuit (don't ask)
2x bottles of water, plus one little squeezy bottle for daughter when I collect from nursery
    Payslip/P60
    Shampoo and conditioner.
Ruddy useless painkiller. In fact they're making me ache more FFS..

I dislocated my kneecap 3 weeks ago at work (still gives me the shuddering cringes), and now I need a rucksack I can wear whilst on crutches. The only one at home is our family swim bag, hence the costumes, shampoo etc. I must get a proper work one that I can put a 17" tft in.

I have two bags, one that usually stays at work to go with me on jobs, and one that travels with me wherever I go

    Work Bag contents:
    1 can air duster
    1 can screen cleaner
    screen wipes
    network / patch cables
    vga cable
    standard power cable
    usb mouse with usb>ps2 converter
    blank CD
    blank DVD
    cd/dvd writer pen
    post-it notes
    A4 plain paper
    mutli-head screwdriver
    adjustable spanner
cable ties (large plastic and small twisty ones)
    sound cable
batteries (AA, AAA, D and Cell)
various pens in colours and pencils + permanent marker
    scissors
usb memory stick loaded with basic programs/exe's for non-network machines
    plasters (just in case!)
5 £1 coins (in case I need a coffee or something on a long job! lol)
1 Windows 7 laptop so I can get online / remote into servers etc. wherever I am on the site

    Personal bag;
    USB phone charger
    USB iPod / iPad charger
    keys
    wallet
    phone
    iPod
    iPad2
some fruit and/or choc bar depending on the time of day
    pen + paper

I'd love to get one of those "roll-up" keyboards too but don't think I could squeeze that outta the tight budget this year (plus I know it would just end up in my 'personal' bag anyway )
