    ICT Student Champions / Club

    Hi,

We are looking at starting an ICT Champions / Club (name to be decided!) for students who are willing to help out Technicians to a certain capacity, fixing computers, refilling printers etc for merits.

Anyone else run this kind of scheme... and know of a good name for the group??!

    Thanks
    Ellis

We tried, and it didnt work well as the children were using it as an excuse to get out of lesson, and then bunk off.

Have to add we don't let them use it as an excuse out of lessons - its all done before/after school and during lunch times.

Sounds similar to what we are looking to setup. Hopefully allocate them a room with their own network to 'play' on.. What did you call them?

There is a good scheme from SSAT around this with a lot of support from schools doing similar called Digital leaders. https://www.ssatrust.org.uk/achievem...alleaders.aspx

    Well worth looking at.

Just to resurrect this thread. Has anyone had success with this and what sort of jobs have you given the students?

As above all our assemblies is done via students. We have a Computer Club run by a year 11 who teaches students php and Mysql.

We are soon to be creating a Digital Leaders group who will be trained to help our Staff in lessons. Basicly for example if a projector isn't working a student who knows how they are roughly setup so they can fix it without calling us

Our Digital Leader team have presented assemblies - Guide to E-Safety - Digital Leaders of Humberston Academy - YouTube

Today they are taking part in interviewing Potential IT Teachers, and on Wednesday will be video blogging answers to questions set by another schools DL team. Its been really rewarding to the students.

I highly recommend joining Digital Leader Network which was setup by schools to twin together and share ideas at Digital leader network | Google Groups, its in the early stages but nice to be in at the start and see new ideas come through.
