Ebay is blocked for students here but not staff although it's still filtered for bad words (because obviously adults shouldn't know any!)
There are ways around symantec web security thoughas the students have found out much to my annoyance!

symantec web security is rubbish, Peacefire's The Circumventor will easily get around it
Midget - any proxy server on the net gets 90% around it 8O
Ahhh, ebay. Without it, our Librarian would be left with nothing to do. Which is why I blocked the .com and .co.uk revisions. So now she uses ebay.de all day instead. So far this week she's racked up 489 hits, of which 373 are unique hits to the 'bay.
I do love passing this stuff on to SLT...ho hum!

We use RM for filtering and have access to eBay, but not to the forums... just as well really; we buy quite alot for the school through eBay!
Ebay is filtered by us for staff and students. Can't really see why either need access from school.
I nearly got lynched a couple of days ago because someone at county had added ebay to the filter list and blocked it.
Various staff members have complained to the extent that I've had to put a special item on the helpdesk to explain it wasn't my fault...
use to have it but now blocked as staff were on it too much. it has been put in the shopping category so anything to do with shopping is blocked as you need a credit card.
plus is it educational
SWS?!?!?
You poor, poor man. Our LEA used it, we retired our in house one in sheer annoyance and switched to Bloxx. Still got it on the network somewhere..such a bag of spanners.
I had me and the NM set up through our e-smith box pointing directly at the upstream server, bypassing SWS totally..my god, the speed difference was scary.
I'd never switch back now. I thought SWS had died a death as a product..
