I was thinking of redesigning our old homepage and adding some more information to it and looking for inspiration. How about we have a topic people post a screenshot of their schools internal homepage?
Ours at the moment (for techs, different icons for staff and students) map.JPG
@localzuk, are the status icons on the right hand side live? If so, how do you do that as it's very cool.

Sadly they are manually changed by me when needed. I would love to have the time to play with Nagios Host/Service groups and make use of that in real time though! But alas, time is lacking at the moment.
I was about to ask the very same thing! That would be very good dynamic but as you said time consuming to setup, I was thinking of using an RSS feed from our Learning Gateway announcments but there never used! Could do with updating our school website too as its not been updated in years from what I can tell, it was handled externally a few years back im told. Ludlow CE School *stretch*
This is ours - was born out of a Wordpress theme I made once and follows on the same design theme as our school site.
Seprate one for students and staff (staff one locked down by ACLs).
The news feed on the right is just a RSS from our school site.
Have been thinking about putting a simple network status thingy in there (just something along the lines of Green - all good, Amber - not so good and Red - just don't bother calling IT its all broken anyway).
This is the one I did about 18 months ago. It had a facelift about 2 months ago when someone on here posted their icons for Moodle and I utilised these for our intranet icons too. The top banner text is editable via a very basic, but restricted popup window which uses PHP to save them to MYSQL and this keeps a record of every change made and when.
We have the option of blue background (ok), yellow (some problems), red (serious problems). I posted an example of a yellow (small) problem on the internet access bar, which I just did quickly to show how it works. The whole top part is very reliant on php/mysql which means we don't need to ever edit the code to make message changes, although it still is all done manually and not automated.
Separately, the google search bar has multiple search engine choices and for added effect the picture changes when someone selects a different search engine.

You Could look at using the PHP server monitor for the script on the left hand side - although it would only say if the server is live.
dgsmith .. is that a template ? or a page you have created your self.
It just uses CSS to position divx boxes on the page. I think I may have based it around a template from oswd.org but it has been heavily modified since then.
