Course in Hackney
I want to do a course in May that's based in Hackney (non-work course; just for personal enrichment). I'm kinda nervous though because it's an evening course and I don't want to get stabbed up getting the train home.
Is Hackney really that bad or am I just pedalling an age-old stereotype?

You're pedalling an age old stereotype - Hackney might be higher risk than some places but it's not high risk.

Hackney isn't that bad. I go there every month to visit my uncle. Its just the stereotype it has, like Luton has bad stereotype but actually isnt that bad etc

@Basicchanel - where are you going from/to and at what time or "night"? don't forget the evenings will soon be lighter so will be more pleasant.
London is fine, just don't do anything or say anything daft to get yourself in trouble and you'll be fine.

Not offended, just amazed that someone might think that anywhere in the UK is so risky you might not be able to do an evening course!

Parts of Hackney; Hoxton, Shoreditch, Dalston are totally gentrified and the rest is 'up and coming' so I'm sure you'll be fine. Stay away from the housing estates though.

out of interest what's the course?

lived in Hackney for 20 years, and despite what people here say, yes it is that bad.
i know some will argue against, but having lived there, and lost friends due to the issues that plague hackney (and many other areas) i can't suddenly say "oh its a lovely area".
advice for everywhere i know, but i'd say as long as you're careful...not playing with your phone while walking, not showing your wallet etc you should be ok.
