    Longest working computer

I just replaced a Tosh Sat S1400 laptop (XP - no SP , 256MRam, no wireless) which was being used as the smartboard machine in a Foundation unit this morning.

I think it was one of the orig LapFTeachers so probably places it around 8 year mark.

Anyone still running anything as old? (And I mean regular use - not a Win98 stuck in a corner being used as a plaything for toddlers )

    Si

I've got a Dell D600 laptop that our exams officer uses to run her timer application for exams. It must be 6 years old this year.

We've got one or two D600s still in regular use by members of staff. We've upped the RAM and I've been told they're running fine.

Our classroom whiteboard machines and student laptops reached 6 or 7 years old this year. All being replaced as we speak (type?) so I suppose that doesn't really count....

We have a Windows 2000 workstation with 256Mb in regular use by the schools librarian, she only needs the web interface access to the Oliver server and the serial port driver for the barcode scanner

Ha, we have lots of machines that are over ten years old still in daily use. Some of them are held together with superglue.

We have a couple of old Elonex's (the one's famous for turning into a flaming fireball) kicking about still. Other then that, our old machine would probably be server 2, which is about 7 years old now.

Are you sure they are being used?

I'm sure if I looked I could find a Dell Inspiron laptop still running somewhere, thankfully upgraded to Windows XP, although built for Windows 2000...

I have an original model RM Tablet PC - was that released in 2002, making it 9 years old this year?

Yep - used daily, I'm typing this on it now. It runs Windows XP Tablet Edition, with all up-to-date service packs and so on, and I've added another 512MB of RAM and swapped the original harddrive for an SSD. It also has a new battery and a wireless-n USB adaptor. The screen resolution and device size / weight is around the same as an iPad, plus it runs Flash.

Come along and have a look - the caretakers are using a Centerprise PC that is nearly 15 years old. We have Dell GX150s in use in classrooms that are around 10 years old, and we have Toshiba S1400-153E laptops in use across the school by various staff members that are nearly ten years old.
