    I just noticed...

I just noticed that whenever asked what I do for a living, I say I'm an IT technician, but I then do the action of typing on a keyboard with my hands

Anyone else do this? (slow day today btw...)

No, never. It's like saying 'lol' in an actual conversation. You just don't do it.

I say that I work in IT.....

And then attempt to look as geeky as possible, just so that I fit the stereotype!

I often lie. It makes me sound more interesting. I once had a lass believing I was a horse trainer/farrier in the army, although she was hammered I did pull off the lie so convincingly that I almost had myself fooled.

I only tend to tell people I'm an IT technician if I think they need my help and I can potentially impress them by fixing something, earning brownie points in the process....until I find out they already have a boyfriend. Lol.

I say I work in a school, then if they probe further I'll say I manage the IT. Never do any actions though!

Just to clarify - I don't mean to do it, it just happens... I'm going to try not to in the future! Tends to be when I talk to older people though.

Well I'm a Data Manager, which I reckon your average person (somebody not in IT/Education) doesnt quite know what I would therefore do, so to make life easier I just say "I do IT in schools". However if I realise they do have a clue, I then go into lengthy detail as to what I do and bore them rigid. Relating to previous posts, I dont think it has ever helped me pull!

While I was at Uni I used to tell people that I studied History. I found that telling people you had just met I was studying computers led to their end of the conversation becoming "I must go..." Amazingly telling people I was studying History it made me more popular with the opposite sex (well they didn't leave straight away), although I was living with a history student who used to laugh that a different subject could be less apealing than history

Now I just say work in IT or I'm a technician depending on who i'm speaking to. Most people are just being polite and dont really care that much anyway.

I tell people I work in the mirror factory - it's what I've always seen myself doing.
