Carrying on from this thread: 24 days to go, and I'm starting to get nervous
I thought I'd start a poll. So if you've been tattooed before please tell me (via poll) what the longest sitting you had was. Also, if you want to post and tell me how it went etc that'd be good too.

17th January 2011, 10:20 AM #3 Just under 2 hours (I rounded up as it was about 100 minutes) for my first tattoo. It's Anti-Flag's Gunstar logo with a black cross in the middle.

17th January 2011, 10:27 AM #4 4 for my last sitting.
Due to a combination of an early start and people cancelling I ended up with more than I expected to have ;-)

How did you feel in the last hour? Could you have gone on for much longer do you feel? I'm probably worrying about nothing with it all - just need to pinch an iPod off someone.

I could have gone longer - but the last bits were from my arm and over my shoulder - which was causing some fairly epic bruising, and my tattooist was concerned.
In all honesty mate, just roll with it - I've only ever had to have a break once when being tattooed, and that was over my solar-plexus. Which I do not recommend....

I'd try and strike up conversation with your tattoo artist rather than sit there listening to your iPod - for one it'll help take your mind off things and if you get on well with the guy it makes it easier to go back for more (and you will almost certainly want to go back for more, it's very addictive!)

I know how addictive it is, to the point that I've tattooed myself on more than one occasion
As for going back to the same artist, I disagree. I think tattoos are a collection, and I like to use a different artist for each tattoo. And as for speaking to the artist, I'm sure that would be fine for the first hour or two, but I bet conversation would slowly dry up. Best to have something in place to take my mind off it if it does dry up. Might just take a book though too

Just read the other thread - sorry about that, thought you were nervous because it was your first, didn't realise it was an 8 hour sitting!
I don't know about you, but I find the process strangely relaxing, almost hypnotic, once I get past the initial pain of the first 10 minutes.
I used to get my tattoo's done by the same guy, he did my first so I just went back to him, thought he was great. However, he moved out of the area and left the shop, so I went elsewhere; and regretted it. I'm now going to a guy one of my mates works with who does tattoo's for people he knows at his house, which sounds well dodgy I know but I've seen the work he's done on a couple of my mates and it's fantastic. So I'm getting him to do my next one and hopefully try to tidy up the mess the last guy made on my arm.

17th January 2011, 10:51 AM #15 I've sat through watching my bro with 4x 6 hour sittings to get a half-back spread with interweave with other tattoos (into shoulders, etc). At that point I realised it is not just a bit of ink, but works of art.
