El Toro restaurant in Hammersmith...A little review for you
Hot wings were ordered - missing the hot flavouring, they were too plain for mine and Viks liking.
Steak was ordered with a peppercorn sauce...well the sauce didn't arrive until I finished my steak, and it was a mushroom sauce..I thought, I'm not wasting that, so I downed it, burnt my tongue (which still hurts now) and ended up looking special as I licked a bottle as it was the only thing that was cold.
Vikpaws steak looked like it has been chainsawed straight from a live cow and was massively undercooked for how he ordered it, he asked for it to be sent back, only to get it back as if it has been thrown on the cooking slate for a further 1 second each side.
I think everyone was disappointed as it promised so much, yet gave so little.
The company and the jokes were nothing short of fantastic, but just the food was the let down.
I hope the rest of the crew add they're opinions.

16th January 2011, 11:44 AM #3 Vik's mistake was that he swapped with me the steak they bought him first. It was a nice steak and nice and rare how I like it. The steak he then had to send back to be recooked was a bit mush but as ours had steaken so long to come out and everyone else had nearly finished he would still be there now waiting for the correctly cooked steak.
The desperados were good though.

Was funny the comments coming from Vik though

Dry bun, dehydrated burger and fries that, whilst cooked, were neither tasty or seemingly fully cooked. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and it was cheap. But it was cheap as in nasty.
So you went to McDonalds then DB?

16th January 2011, 01:56 PM #8 Went here for steak last Monday and had brilliant steak - I'd guess it's a bit far from Hammersmith and you can't get there with an Oyster card but if you're in the area, it's worth checking out :-)

Previous years we've gone to Black and Blue, which is usually excellent.
However I gather the SmoothWallers had a bit of an awful time this year - so might be best avoided if its going downhill.....

16th January 2011, 07:35 PM #10 El Toro was a bit of a let down unfortunately - even with my mammoth platter of meat
. If anyone's looking for an excellent steak restaurant in central London I can definitely recommend Goodman Steak Restaurant Mayfair City London A bit on the expensive side, but some of the best steak I've ever had the pleasure of eating, cooked to perfection

Some thought it was OK.. I didn't - service was even worse than usual (and you usually put up with their s--t for great steak) and I ordered a rare rib-eye, which was one of the worst bits of meat i've eaten in a LONG time. We all thought the fries they served with them had changed - RobF suggested to the waitress that this may be because the old ones were hand cut chips, and these are out of a freezer bag - went down badly!

17th January 2011, 07:26 PM #13 The other thing about el toro is that the nice desperados beer we had is french and not mexican as you may think with the style of food.
