Finding a Web Host
My HT is wanting to host a website for his own personal thing and has asked me to look into it for him. All he wants to do is host a few HTML files - nothing fancy, and just something that is cheep and cheerful.
I've never hosted a website or know of any that are decent and cheap. Can you recommend any that are good?
One that I have found so far is www.1and1.co.uk and that one was recommended by a friend who used them a very long time ago.
Thanks in advance.

What would you recommend to host the HTML files - Windows or Linux?
Sorry if I sound like a right newb. I've never done this before.

You can go with either, Linux is usually cheaper though. HTML is the most basic of all web techs.

Yeah I'd go for linux if you don't need to pay for any windows specific stuff.

Having a dedicated server for basic stuff seams a bit overkill, how about somewhere like Dreamhost which is shared hosting in the US and it should be fine if it is not mission critical stuff. I can also get you a discount if you enter EDUGEEK when it asks for discounts you can get $75 off the yearly subscription and a free domain.

I didn't say to buy a dedicated server, CS New Media does everything from basic webhosting upwards. The support is the key with them.
I'm not sure if your referral link is allowed on here.

if it inset then a mod can take it off.

That is a bit mercenary isn't it?

Another vote for CSNM here. Not the cheapest, but its fast, reliable and good support.

I'm looking at CS New Media but unsure of what package to choose from out of Linux. I'm guessing the HT won't have no more than 20 web pages with some text and graphics on it.
Would the Lite version be enough for him, do you guys reckon?

Should be plenty I'd say.
