    Making your own screensaver...

Has anyone ever done this? Maybe its obvious, but I've never even considered it - a teacher wants one made up for the classroom machines to remind students not to print unless they have to!!

Are animated screensavers just flash files or what?

Just check with the teacher they mean "screensaver" as we understand it. My teachers ask for them all the time when what they actually want is a different desktop background.

Good point!! I think she does mean the screensaver this time though - the background is set by us already and no-one gets to change it. Caused an upcry at first, but people are used to it now...

I did ours with Flash and InstantStorm - a free Flash screensaver creator - turn your SWF files into a screensaver - free and doesn't throw adverts or splash screens up. Just has a discrete plug for the software in the Settings dialog.

if a student is using a computer, why would they even wait for the screensaver to come on?

I think she means wallpaper, we dont have a screensaver on student accounts

Not all screensavers are made with Flash...

This is a small screen saver I wrote which will randomly pick video clips from a folder on your PC. I was after something like this a while ago and could only find programs you have to pay for; I then realised you could embed Microsoft Media Player as an ActiveX control and could control it using some simple calls.

Did our school logo one by hacking apart the standard windows XP screensaver and replacing the graphic

I think the idea is that when they come into a classroom the computers *should* be logged off and sitting on the screensaver. The idea is to raise awareness about printing allegedly for the environment, but more realistically for the school budget!! I have my doubts whether it will work, but it costs nothing to find out!!
