    Hyundai cars

Anyone any experience of owning a Hyundai car, especially long term reliability and quality of the dealers? Looking at ordering an ix35, which I will be looking at keeping for a good number of years as I tend to run cars till they nearly drop.

Only experience I have had is through my brother, he had a Hyundai Coupe a few years back and kept it for about 6 months, never had any problems with it, ended up selling it because he wanted something faster.

I would certainly consider buying one although couldn't bring myself to buy a brand new car of any make!

My brother owned a Hyundai Sonata and a Lantra. If the newer ones are the same as the older ones, then they are pretty solid. The Lantra was a nice car to drive. I had a few lessons in it myself

The sonata was a nice car as well. It had a big steering wheel, almost like a bus!. both cars were comfortable and he only got rid of the Lantra because he did something to the sump if I remember right. He also had no choice to get rid of his sonata as a polish lorry driver reversed into the side of it and wrote it off for him. He wasn't happy.

He still says now that they were two of his preferred cars.

The only downside was the cost of maintenance and servicing. I remember him needing a calliper doing on the Sonata. He took it to Kwik fit and they found that they needed to order a new tool just to remove the calliper on the Sonata. Cost them around £200 or something for the tool.

Thanks, think I've made up my mind to go for it :-)
Last couple of cars I've bought new, first one I had for 8 years till some idiot drove into it and wrote it off, current one is 11 years old and things are starting to go wrong on a regular basis now.
Had a test drive of the ix35 last week, really liked it but there is about a 4 month waiting list but should be able to keep mine running for a bit longer.

Had a V6 Coupe for 4 years and it never missed a beat. MK Hyundai are a really good dealer. One thing I would say is you'll need to keep it because it will depreciate like you wouldn't believe. Case in point local dealer has an 07 V6 coupe, low miles for £4995. 3 years ago would have cost 17.5K!

Apparently the ix35's have a good residual rate as they're so popular, but I just buy them and run them into the ground. Do like buying a new car, but can't afford to do it on a regular basis. Son has finished uni, got a job and moved out so actually have some money now to do this, so splashing out slightly more than I would normally do :-)

Well, made my decision and have placed the order, £2.5k off dealer price, just got a long wait now as probably won't be delivered until April.
