Aston Martin DB S?
We're in the very fortunate position of having a big chunk of money to spend on ICT stuff - just snuck in under the bar before all the financial taps were turned off!
Obviously I've got a big wishlist (new network kit, new servers for virtualisation, decent wi-fi, etc etc etc), just wondered what other people would put on the list, to see if I've left anything important off.
Look forward to reading your suggestions.
Aston Martin DB S?
New/upgraded servers, that will last a minimum of 3-5 years of use without major expenditure, all running Server 2008 R2.
Windows 7 rollout to all workstations, probably MS Office 2010, and ability to run sharepoint etc for the collaborative tools.
New, managed network and wireless system with no bottlenecks/daisychains of routers/switches.
Dedicated space for servers if not already got it, no more servers sitting on desk in IT suite or office!
Proper Toolkit! oh how many IT techs have to scrabble around for the right key/screwdriver/bit.
Couple of speedy Portable hard drives, and Universal caddies for IDE/SATA. Godsend for copying data etc from laptops killed by staff.
A mini fridge!
A couple of laptops, and probably a spare projector, solely for IT use in case of idiotic teacher breaking something and desperately needing something to work with, last minute visitor etc.
A decent desk/chair for your office.
A NEW OFFICE THAT ISN'T A DISUSED TOILET!!!!
A spare technician to do the jobs you don't want!
Well having just done something similar I'll tell you what was on our wishlist for this summer just gone
New network infrastructure (actual cabling!), new network kit (Juniper ), new servers for thin client virtualisation, moving everything to windows 7, new wireless network (Ruckus), new SAN.
Other things we'd like to do include a new phone system (MS OCS tied into our existing exchange setup), CCTV system (mobotix), centrally controlled door access controlled . Ohhh and an office that actually has space :P
A seperate backup/redundancy area onsite, that will keep the network up/house VMs to provide redundancy for all the servers.
A shedload of RAM, to upgrade all the student PCs.
upgrade office. student machines are still on off2000
