    Number of computer suites

We are a school of around 670 pupils and have 5 ICT suites and 130 laptops. A computer in every room for a teacher AND a teacher laptop (which stays at home). Now I think this is way over the top. I've been talking to a Manager from a very good school and they only have 2 ICT suites and a30 laptops and all the teachers use their laptop in their classrooms and they have 1200 kids.

What I'm after is what you guys have at your school. I'm trying to scale down the number of suites as by clever timetabling we could remove one if not two ICT suites and reduce the number of laptops too.

Our school thinks more is better!!!!!

We have 720 kids on role.

    1 x 30 pc suite
    1 x 33 pc suite
    1 x 40 pc suite
    1 x 15 pc suite
    1 x 10 pc suite

10 pc's in the library and smaller clusters around.

Every member of teaching staff has a laptop that has to be in school for e-registration, 100'ish laptops for students use in trolleys.

    Secondary school with 1100 kids:

6 x Suites of 26 (25+ teacher) machines (All machines under 2 years old).
    1 x Suite of 30 (29 + teacher) machines (A few years old.)
DT room with 12 machines (a few years old)
A "Conference room" with about 6 machines.

Every teaching room has a machine.

2 laptop trolleys (16 in each). <- These are a few years old and starting to break.

We are trying to tone down laptop trolley use as we think we have enough ICT suites that they shouldn't be needed very often.

    700 students on role:

    350 networked computers whole school:

100 laptops for teachers and student use, all standalone (students profile locked down for safeguarding).

All rooms have a computer attached to IWB for both teacher and student use:

10 Ict suites of various sizes to accommodate different class sizes:

All ICT suites are bookable from the timetable:

2.5 techs (this includes both myself and webman, Tallan is the 0.5 technician as he only comes in for half a day).

Get rid of the teacher desktops or laptops as that is doubling up. It sounds like you are going to have to build out your budget to include every think and show that reducing computer suits would enable the better use of ICT in remaining areas. I would build a cost model spread sheet put some life time stuff 3-4 years for PC and 4-5 for smartboards setup and 5-6 for network kit. If they want to move to cloud services they need to budget about £25k/yrs for an internet connection. Collect some base line data form your switch if you can that works wonders when you show graphs of why it not working.

    1000 machines.
    10 servers
    Cisco 3750 and 2960-s switches.

This is the most depressing thread I've ever read. With knocking on 800 kids we have 1 suite of 30 machines and 4 working trolleys of 30 laptops. We just don't have any more room for a new IT suite and we are having to take in more children this year due to the population density in the area.
Any ideas how to improve the ratio?

3 ICT suites each with 36 PCs
    Library suite 32 PCs
    1 Suite with 24 Pcs
10 PCs + 10 laptops in Learning Support Classroom
    Teacher PC in every classroom
730 ish students - SLT and myself find this is just about adequate - yes there are times when the rooms are empty but because of the way the timetable works at other times you will get at least 3 teachers fighting over 1 room.
Teachers do have laptops at home - they no longer bring them into school and we are not replacing these as they die, can't afford to for starters!
