Vermin Media users with the new routers

    Folks,

This is for your home connecitons, if any of you are using Vermin Media and have the new Netgear all in one modem/router contraptions, first and foremost head to the router setup page and disable the SPI firewall - otherwise opening more than 4 websites at once will make your connection pretty much unusable.

Confused the hell out of Virgin when I asked them to close my support ticket, as they neither knew what SPI meant or what a firewall is...

As from the last 3 weeks it's been Netgear VMDG280 all in one (router&modem) boxes. They're terrible :|
Never had a problem with home Netgear stuff before, just these particular ones are broken. Virgin themselves couldn't manage a 2 computer LAN let alone an internet service so explaining this to any of their technical staff is like telling a PE teacher how to calculator the hypotenuse of a triangle.

I have been with Virgin (Cable) for 8 years and only had the internet twice in total !!!
BUT i did have to call virgin support once to get my FTP settings for the free webspace. The guy did not know what "Web Space" was and said that they dont do it. in the end I went along with him and hung up.

Found the solution on the user forums.

We still have a Motorolla modem from when we first signed up to then-Blueyonder in the good ol' days. By the sounds of it, long may this modem last(!) though as a few others have said, have rarely had a problem with them ourself.

    Finds wood to touch.

I really have had very little problem with them. A couple of incidents of half-crossed lines, and an old modem giving up the ghost. Certainly nothing out of the BT ordinary.

i have recently had 14 telephone conversations where 2 people hang up on me and one was so rude i had to hang up on him. we also had 6 engineers come out when the 2nd lot should of got the senior tech people out to sort out our relay slow connection and relay high ping rate. But its working for now.

One of my colleagues has one of these contraptions - he just went and bought his own in the end.

I have a DLink which isn't too bad but after a random period of time the web interface becomes unresponsive... fun
