I thought we all have a ticket as tax payers are actually paying for this ?

Around 14 million pounds this is going to cost apparently - I am wondering how those who are losing their jobs because of the cuts feel that the government are happy to pay towards this......?
Nice to know the CONDEMS are looking after those who they feel are actually important....... Idiots.

Since the Pope is a Head of State I don't think there is any difference to what we are expected to pay for a visit from Sarkozy or Obama. In some cases the costs to us are even higher I suspect!

Head of the catholic church and head of state, he is kind of important regardless of your religious views.

How so what? He's the leader of an organisation with over a billion members, and the leader of a state 'Vatican City'. That's important whether or not you subscribe to their beliefs...

There was a thing on the news yesterday saying that they had planned on 100,000 in Glasgow and now reckon it will be 80,000. When JPII visited there were 500,000.

I'm really upset at the papal / catholic church bashing going on in this thread. I've made a genuine request for any spare tickets as I really want to go and see the Pope - I mean I've been out and bought a special outfit and everything.

Not many "states" that are smaller than our playing field.

Not many "states" that have 0 native population and are 100% religious.

Still hopefully he'll breakout his lighting bolts and look even more evil.

OK OK you can all stop there.
TBH tech guy, most of the bashing is about the cost and the 'head of state' bit, rather than the religion. But I am closing the thread before this gets nasty
