Today I experienced whats called a "Sleep Paralysis" today, god it was weird..........after eatting a very large lunch with a friend i felt so tired and needed to have a lay down, about 30mins in I sort of woke up\half asleep and was having this "Sleep Paralysis", it was very scary indeed, thought i was dying at one point!!!
Anyone else had this before?

Every monday morningAlarm goes off. Eyes open. Body refuses to act on my commands for at least half an hour.

In jest, Monday mornings as with Synaesthesia. But not a 'real' sleep paralysis, that would probably freak me out to!

First time it happens is pretty freaky...
Brains awake body isnt.. Has happened a few times..
Sounds frightening IanT.
I haven't experienced it yet but do have disruptive sleep apnea which sees me stop breathing and restart several times every hour throughout the night. Seems to be under but I now have to wear a face mask attached to an air pump which keeps my airway open - looks like Darf Vader!!
It was scary, I was at a friends at the time and I just needed to lay down for 30mins, after about 20mins it kicked in and seriously thought I was dying, after using good old google\wiki its a very interesting read, some very odd stories out there!
Yes happened around a month ago..... scarest thing that has happened to me (yet).. From my googling it seems to suggest it is related to stress which adds up. I don't tend to show stress mentally but I do show it physically i.e eye twitching, head aches etc etc.
I didn't experience any halucinations like some people say they get... but I was more focused on the fact I couldn't move anything but my eyes
Yeah, I read a number of people can see things, hear things talking to them..............
I used to get this quite frequently (once or twice a month or so). Very scary as you say. I used to think someone had broken into my house when it started - I could hear someone moving around, but couldn't actually move or get up to do anything about it. Now I know what it is, its not so bad.
It only ever happened if I slept on my back, so there was a fairly simple solution in the end. Personally I find trying to roll side to side can help break me out of it, but it still takes a few minutes to regain movement.

I remember walking in my friends house a couple of years ago, and nobody was around. I wandered up to his bedroom and I heard in panting heavily. As I wandered in I just saw him lying in bed with his eyes wide open looking like he was in a state of sheer terror. I can't remeber exactly what I did after that but once he came around he explained what had happened to me, and I thought it quite bizarre. Not heard anything similar to this until reading this thread. I wonder if he still gets them, and even if he knows what they are.
He explained that he thought he was having a heart attack but couldn't move to do anything about it.

I get it a surprising amount, mainly after I have had a migraine though
I had them a couple of times, when going through a period of stress. Seriously freaked me out, never used to last long as I'd be fighting to wake my body up - usually ended up jumping out of bed swearing my head off when I kicked in!

My Dad has this condition and has the same sort of system - which blows oxygen in through his mouth and keeps his airways open. Spooky really. He has to go every now and again to the sleep clinic to have his equipment tested and serviced - and for a general checkup.
They linked my fathers issues with a drug called Septrin which nearly killed him many years ago.
My wife is worried that I may have it as well as I sometimes stop breathing.
