23rd July 2010, 03:31 PM #8 Building new group policies...I will get this W7 desktop locked down...
We used to do all our GPO stuff through AD Users & Computers, now with W7 we do it through the Group Policy Management Console and when I first looked in Group Policy Objects at the number we'd created over the years, I was a bit shocked! And no, I'm not admitting how many there are, it's a bit embarrasing!

I've upgraded our forest and domain function levels from 2003 to 2008 R2. It seems to have atleast trippled the amount of policy options available - eeek. So it's going to take quiet some time to properly go through all the available setting and work out how and where and why each policy gets set.
That said - Group Policy Preferences look really, really useful.

23rd July 2010, 03:40 PM #11 The group policies themselves aren't, just a few extra policies here and there, but I'm rebuilding the GP's from scratch. The Group Policy Management console in W7 is really nice, much better than doing through ADUC or the old group policy console.

Really?
Mine looks no different...got a screencap?
Unless you mean the registry/printers/mapped drives bits, cause those are a vast improvement

Yeah, my head is spinning, there are a lot which are obvious, but so many are 'what on earth is that!', or something less polite along those lines!

23rd July 2010, 03:45 PM #14 ...trying to install Windows XP on an Acer R3160 nettop. Kept getting stuck at "Completing Installation". Been at it since 9:00am. Finally cracked it when I realised I DID have a vanillia XP SP3 disc.
Sigh...
