    Fire!

    Dear Headteachers / Principals
We would like to alert you to a large fire on a land fill site in Cornwall and the plume cloud of smoke from it is coming over Plymouth. Our Civil Protection Team have advised that all schools especially those on the west of the city keep their windows closed as a precaution. We will keep you updated on the situation and will contact you again as soon as possible.
    Many thanks for your assistance.

Do you have breathing apparatus training?

Don't envy you being shut inside on a hot day like today

Incorrect. It appears that you misunderstand how Air Conditioning works and are perhaps confusing this with a fan.

There are different types of air conditioning but most work on the principle of reducing the humidity/temperature of the air the unit processes. This can be done by passing air over a cold evaporator coil (think glass of cold water on a hot day = condensation) and draining the water away. The air now less humid and the humidity of the room is reduced. Or or you could have cold coils that take the heat out of the air and expel it out the building.

Whichever method it uses, AC does no draw in external air so would be safe from the smoke.
