Thumbs down I thought, by now, I'd be immune!

Yet again I'm suffering from a rather nasty bug that's knocked my balance slightly out of kilter and left me wondering whether I should just go back to bed for a week... (not an option sadly!).

What I don't understand is that I've had numerous colds and other joyous symptoms, thanks to the four schools I support, and all manner of other bugs that normally I'd have shrugged off... You'd think that with all that exposure I'd have an immune system capable of laughing ebola off as just a flesh wound or something... Not anymore it seems...

I guess it's the lack of sleep, stress of working all the hours while also looking after a baby, finding "us" time and the rest that's knocking my system for six... Yeah, on reflection a bit of a no-brainer really isn't it.

It's gotten so I'm wondering if lotions and potions mightn't be a good idea... Sleep would, naturally but we're just not managing that just yet...

    *sigh*..

Yes, I'm a man with a particularly bad cold and feeling the need for some magic fairy dust to make it all better..

Are you eating properly? Take some vitamins and minerals to give you a bit of energy. If your immune system isn't working very well, you will keep getting these bugs. Also, get some exercise - slumping on the sofa sounds great but you need to get the heart pumping a bit to feel better. Take the baby out for a stroll - hopefully the baby will sleep and you and your partner can have some 'us' time. Don't stress about that either - as long as you take the time to hug and talk a bit - even for 5 mins here and there, and make sure that she knows she is still important to you, that will sort itself out as the baby gets older.
    Other than that -
Ahhhhhh - sorry you are feeling ill....virtual chicken soup??

Replace dairy with whisky. Works a treat.

I heard on the news yesterday that the average sick days per year per person has decreased. I haven't had a sick day in years, but I know plenty of people who drop off as soon as they snap a toe nail. My brother works with people high up in the council who in the past year have had about 40% sick time (a married couple who work together).

I once made scrambled eggs with a dash of Jack Daniels - I can recommend it if you're partial to JD. And in porridge too. With lots of sugar. Although I stop at brushing my teeth with it, because that's just silly.

7years: 2 sick days. Nothing for ~5 years - score 1 for whisky on toast.

I have a cup of Echinacea and cranberry/rasberry tea every day and I have felt so much better since I started. When I first started working in education I literally had a cold every other week. It's quite nice too and makes a change from normal tea/coffee.

Echinacea is thought to serve as a stimulant to the body's immune system by activating white blood cells, whereby making it more difficult for foreign bodies to infect cells. Some evidence from other clinical studies appears to indicate that Echinacea may have antiviral and antifungal effects, possibly adding to its infection fighting ability.

It seems that I'm not the only one. This year has been hell, with one flu or cold after another. Things have been getting better since the weather warmed up though. I guess with the long winter we've just had, being couped up in houses with the heating whacked up and the windows shut hasn't done us any favours.

Take one jar of smart price marmalade - remove 1 tablespoonful and replace with whisky. Stir well. THAT on toast is FANTASTIC!
