Wow - I've always wanted to keep bees but have no idea where to start. That hive looks like it's growing quickly. Great stuff going on.

So you tricked them then? The old 'quick, look over there!' trick?

Something like that - btw, that's not me at the hive, I'm the one holding the phone taking the footage - and for your info we don't wear the gear unless we really have to - Bees won't sting unless they feel threatened. I have only been stung once this week, Greg [ the guy at the hives ] has been stung twice.
If the hives were busy with activity then we would have put the head gear on but today it was not worth it.

I also talk to them, in another video about 5 mins later, we are looking at the other hive, one goes up my sleeve and you can clearly hear me asking him to get the hell out !! [ I have not uploaded that one but will ]

I would say lets have a hive cam but i think IR would affect them. Not sure how bee's communicate but i guess it would be something to look into.

also - did you have to get planning permission to get bee's?

Did not need planning permission - we a 5 acre nature reserve which is nice. And down the other end of the school work is underway for our 3 hole golf course !!
Hive cam is in place - we are just thinking of how we are going to power it and send the signal back to a central point as the hives are quite deep into the nature reserve.

urm, for power POE and signal WIFI of course. Jokes aside, how far is it. You can probably get away with POE network and repeaters.

Or if that fails... link camera in hive to bee training software, train beens to dance in a way to communicate hex values, get bees to fly into the office, set up camera in office to re-encode bee dancing back into a video stream, get bees to dance, ensure beetrate is high enough for an uninterupted signal. sorted!
