Google FREE Sat-Nav Now on UK Android Phones

Just a heads up for all us UK Android owners - today Google Maps Navigation comes to the UK and Ireland, and will be available as part of Google Maps on any phone running Android 1.6 and later! Whoop! Just been playing with it on my G1 and it is so cool.

I've got 1.6 on my G1 so I just scrape in! Can't wait until I get my Desire in June.

Is this an update or a new app? How do you get it?

It's part of Google Maps - get the latest version from the MarketPlace.

It's an update for the existing Maps app. You'll either get a notification that an update is available, or if you're impatient you can go into the Market and download it.

I am wondering how much data allowance this kind of thing would use if you used it all the time....

I know, I was thinking that - plus, in the half hour I've been playing with it it's sucked my battery a bit.

At least if it's being used in the car you can plug in to the lighter socket though (I presume that one exists for the HTC phones?)
