I would go for 4 as it breaks up the words and will make it more human friendly and shorter.

I'd probably go for 'for' but only as long as the letters didn't match those on either side...eg: fluffforrobots

personally id buy both, and then pick one as the "main"

we own both the .co.uk and .com version of our company domain and all we do is forward *.domain.co.uk and *@domain.co.uk to the .com counterpart, you could do the same with xfory and x4y

you could give the URL out differently depending on the audience, stick x4y on posters around campus to get NQTs and then use xfory when your targetting onlder teachers who want to swap school.

Definitely get both - partly so it's easier to give the URL verbally, and partly so that somebody doesn't buy the other one and do something unfortunate with it.

Well after the advice above I went and got both domains. Thanks for all the comments above. The domains in question are designs4schools.co.uk / designsforschools.co.uk

My thinkning at the moment it 4 would give me some better options for the logo but when passing on the address verbally I would have to explain it's the number 4 and not for. I would add a Poll but can't seem to add one to an active thread?

I'd base your site, logo etc around the 4 and keep 'for' as a plain redirect. Then if you dictate it to someone it doesn't matter, but it's much easier for you to maintain.

Why would you have to explain? Tell them it doesn't matter which way they do it as both domains go to the same page. Whether they enter "serviceforsector" or "service4sector" they are going to end up at the same place.

I was obviously too subtle You had designs4 and designfor

If somebody else has a similar name then you need to be cautious that you're not going to get confused with them, either in terms of them getting annoyed that you're riding on their coat tails or you having issues when they turn out to be cowboys and ruin your reputation.

also if they are genuine and do have the needs of the customer at heart they might take offence to haveing someone use a similar name and stealing business off them.
