Optical Mouse Confusion This is an update of the old mouse-ball-removal trick: A small piece of tape over the laser sensor on an optical mouse will cause it to go haywire. Just color the nonstick side of the tape with a Sharpie and then tape it over the lens.

I've settled for changing the READY message on a selection of HP printers askint the user to REPLACE WHITE TONER. Meh, it'd do.

I've got an an 'on script' and 'off script' set up so I can put it back to normal and visit the printer asking if they are trying to wind me up

I'll find out tomorrow I have 1x2600 on the list. Unfortunately I can't exactly test it before hand. I tested on a LJ5100.

Theres an old Perl script floating around t'net. Someone had compiled into an exe with a couple of simple command line parameters (IP and Display Message). I've zipped the exe I found and my on/off .bat files.

Just edit the batch file for your IP's and the message you want. The batch file will run the exe so just make sure they are in the same dir. I did it this way so I can quickly do half a dozen printers at once, on/off at will, rather than keep typing the exe on the command line.

I shall be working late tonight.... IN fact so late, I think most of the staff will have gone....

By the time they return in the morning, the entire staffroom will have reversed itself...
