My tatty escort is in for its MOT in a week or so...think it will fail but hoping its just on minor things - if so that would be 2 years of driving for about £600 all in including substantial welding done last year.
If it needs anything major I will be buying something else. I really fancy a Honda CRX

I have this in my garage,
Sadly not on the road at the moment as the clutch went 2 years ago and I've just never had the money to put her back on the road. On top of that she also needs a fair number of other jobs doing.
However, as my current daily driver is on the way out as well, I may well get her fixed soon and use as my daily drive for the summer months

Ahh memories, used to do a lot of work on beetles back in the day, my daughters boyfriend has one now - can't get away from them, considering getting one again!
New cars are just as bad, my current is 4 years old and just been for a service which cost me 340 quid, and there was a few faults that aren't covered in my warranty.
Seriously considering going back to shedding!

Got a '96 Calibra SE5 last spring.
Since getting it, it's needed a cambelt (£60 part plus water pump and a doddle to fit,) new CTS (£20 odd, screws in) new pair of tyres (£100 ish) and the odd serviceable bit.
It's had a new 4-2-1 manifold, uprated filter, PC, Dinitrol, few bits and bobs. King's ransom in fuel though!
It never breaks. Ever. And it's gorgeous.

Forgot about this thread! Still got the same MR2, needed another shed load of work for its MoT including new radiator (and it had been SORN'd for four years) but it's now back on the road. I'd forgotten its appetite for fuel!

Wub those Calibras Spent most my latter teens lusting after a metallic blue SE6.
Still rocking my 98 Honda Accord. Had to replace the clutch earlier this year, otherwise it;s just had exhaust, brakes and tyres

The aforementioned Beetle-loving son finally gave in and got a reliable, less gas guzzling, Bora. A strange choice as they are very boring cars. He actually had two and then he reverted and got an old Golf. Currently he has a newer, old Golf and has lowered it, improved the exhaust etc etc.
He still runs his VW Audi group, DASVAG and I think he will get another Beetle as soon as he has the money and time to look after it
We have just had to buy our daughter a car and ended up with a Y reg Micra. Failed its MOT for some welding and the volume of the horn (!) but a few quid bunged to a friend of aforementioned son got the welding done and a new horn was £15.

Considering that the Bora is a MKIV golf with a boot, surely he'd find a golf just as boring?

Does 2001 count or is that still new ?

Is yours that 2 litre? They seemed alright on fuel tbh, nice and brisk also!

Yup, 2 litre four pot. Mine is a GT-S (turbo) though, once it gets on boost low teens is fairly commonplace! Driven sensibly it can get 30mpg though.
